Claimjumper

Context
I was heading home after the holiday in Sun Valley at 2022's New Year. I had driven over there because I missed my flight Monday morning due to holiday travelers, covid staffing issues and snow in Seattle. I was starving and really needed to eat something good; more than just roadside junk like I'd been doing. For example, I had crummy fake-eggs and fried hot dogs for breakfast at the Hampton Inn in Pendleton Oregon. Yummers. I was feeling like a salad and passing through Seattle. And I thought to myself, "Where have I not eaten a French Dip?" The answer was Claimjumper!
At the time I was feeling really spooked about my water pipes bursting from the freezing at home but I was so hungry I had to stop. Probably shouldn't have stopped but did. In the end it all worked out well!
I was feeling in a big rush so I didn't really let myself savor or truly enjoy much. And truthfully there may not have been much to really enjoy. I did have a bad cold, too, so that could have been part of this somewhat negative review.

Google Places page for Claimjumper.
My buddy Matt had been to CJ a while back and had this FD. He complained about it a little. We agree it was a bit too messy.
Here it is on the menu.
They offer a ton of slides, I just wasn't feeling them this day.
Google had the dish as a "line item" but no one had reviewed it. And Google also does not let individuals review individual dishes.
Here it is. Not cut. No skewers. Seems pretty plain and basic. No garnish either.
The side salad with bleu cheese. Once I saw the diced tomatoes I felt turned off. They looked mealy and like I didn't want to eat them. I think I might have places hold the tomatoes if they're simply diced. I tolerate sliced tomatoes and cherry tomatoes but I don't want them diced. Bad for texture.
You can see here how all the meat dropped out and I was just left with bread.
Here's the "money shot". Looks pretty good, actually.
Place
Clean and seems fancy. Big menu. At the mall so nothing too fancy.
Overall not the most memorable experience.
Don't recall any music playing.
Staff
One guy bringing lemons was friendly and was looking forward to sitting inside after his shift.
Service
Was slow at first. Sat in bar. Chatted with the bartender at some point about her new year's resolution which was to further train her blind dog.
Ambiance
Slow today. New Year's Day 2022. There were a few couples and groups here and there. I sat at the bar. Pretty lonely.
Food
Didn't feel like eating any of their other "free" sides right now so I splurged on a side salad.
Side salad
Comments
Salad sold separately. 😔
I want more on my salad than just the standard fare. This was definitely the standard fare and I wasn't all that enticed. It wasn't too different from my GREAT salad the night before in Oregon but it wasn't great. Cheddar cheese maybe makes it a little bit nice but it's not enough to differentiate. I think it needs to have something like olives or cucumber or really anything (red onion?) that makes it different and better than "just a side salad". Basics: good greens Performance: more basics Excitement: any unique feature.
Greens
Were fine.
Croutons
Were crunchy.
Diced tomato
Don't really like seeing this usually.
Shredded cheddar
Was fine. Not as thickly-cut as what I had the previous day.
Original Tri-Tip Dip
Sandwich
Alone it's pretty good. I think I just didn't like the messiness and lack of finishing touches.
Meat
Overcooked. Black pepper taste. Not much of it.
Bread
Toasted and buttered.
No skewers.
Non-meat toppings
There were caramelized onions but I didn't really taste them.
Cheese
Good but not overly flavorful, which is fine.
Caramelized Onions
Jus
Dark and rich. They didn't bring enough initially. They should know better.
Could have perhaps been upgraded to a score of 4 if it wasn't so messy and they actually cut the sandwich so a normal person could eat it. They should have skewers as well. I tore my sandwich in half like I was a ravaging animal. Maybe they gave me a steak knife to cut it but I didn't see it.
Had been told that it's messy.
Primary flavor is salt and pepper.
Served "uncut" (not sliced). This seems like a bad call. Pretty large size, generally. Buttered. Lots of cheese that fell out.
Not sure I've seen green chilies on an FD before. Didn't taste or see them in this one.
Chain restaurant.
