Colophon Cafe
| I had recently been told by my new coworker, Julie, that the French Dip at Colophon Cafe in Bellingham, a short drive from my place, was an excellent one: her son's favorite. Her college-aged son, name TBD, was living in Bellingham and going to my alma mater, Western Washington University, there. It is definitely fun and inspiring to know of people with common tastes (no pun) in food groups and schools. So I was compelled. | |
It was late on a Friday afternoon and I'd wrapped up work for the week. I'd also just gotten paid my sign-on bonus so I was feeling grateful and motivated. I wanted to get out of the house, so decided that a "date night" with myself was a good option. I put on my new favorite sneakers and headed out, after feeding the birds from my new 40-lb. bag of seed with my new bird seed scoop and dispenser.
The weather was lovely and it even felt a bit like summer to me, although it was only mid-Spring. I cruised up Chuckanut Drive to Colophon Cafe, enjoyed a nice dinner sitting out on their patio, then ran back down I-5 to Burlington to catch the new Nicolas Cage movie, "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent", at 7:10. It all worked out well and here I am on Saturday morning writing up my review. Do I even write them anymore or do I assemble them? Anyways, here goes.
| |
| Nice to have with the weather I had. | |
| Looks like a big place but I was happy to be outside. | |
| Was pretty good overall. Slow at times. Everyone was friendly. | |
No salt and pepper on my table
| Wanted some pepper for my salad and couldn't flag anyone down. | |
| |
| I loved that they provided me with options for traditional (beef), turkey and vegetarian (portabella mushroom) as the "meat" of their French Dip sandwich. I asked for the "whole" size and for 1/2 of it beef and 1/2 of it portabella mushroom. They were indeed able to accommodate this request for a $2 up-charge that they did not disclose. The price was indeed expensive but I don't really care these days; it's a meal, hobby and passion. | |

| The sun came out more while I sat there. It was peaceful and in some ways "busy" for Bellingham. There were a couple of different sets of parents with kids playing in the park. It felt great to be out and about and enjoying food, wine outdoors. It was warm enough, too, and no wind either. | |
Park scene was pretty nice.
| |
| |
| Looked great when served. I liked the color of the jus cup. | |
| Was not overly delicious to me but was indeed fresh and of pretty high quality. | |
| Just not all that delicious. | |
Could have used a little diced red onion or kalamata, perhaps.
| |
| |
| Looks nice in presentation. Clearly buttered and toasted. | |
Nice cornmeal crunch and looks homemade.
| Was not overly prominent. And I actually liked that. | |
| Great. Excellent really. Onions really add something. They have a perfectly nice texture. Al dente. | |
| More substantial than the mushroom side. | |
| Good and good amount. High quality onions and bread probably make this thing. | |
Indeed a score of five overall. Super high quality and thought going into this fine feast.
| I ordered a pinot grigio off the happy hour menu just in time. | |
| |
| Ok but was not my favorite. | |
| The waitress said that she hooked me up with a bigger-than-normal pour (the rest of the bottle). | |
| They provide a chilled carafe and a small plastic glass. | |
| Didn't seem nice or fancy. | |
| At least the water looked cold/chilled. | |
| I definitely prefer ice with my water. | |
| |
| Realized that my dogecoin was tanking. | |
| Did decent on Wordle today. | |
| Sitting upstairs at my place realizing that "it was on" for me to go to Colophon Cafe. | |
| Thinking of the word "masturdate" for "I'm going out with myself" then realizing I didn't coin it. Oh well, kind of funny. | |
| One of my new shoes. Topo brand. | |
| My new bird "Seed Scoop". Maybe not as big as I'd want. | |
| Has a hand-operated "valve" to release the seed! | |
| Starting my checkvist review for Colophon; also part of the "seeding" process. | |
| Love this software so much. | |
| The drive. Not bad and it was nice out. | |
| Lovely on the way out of town. | |
| A few thin clouds but not bad. Temp was mid 50's. | |
| Listening to music on the drive up. Love this song by IDLES. Love IDLES. | |
| Really quite good for a stock system. | |
Flakiness of Back-up Camera and Screen
| Some glitch happening here. | |
| Thinking it would be cool to get some sort of head-mounted camera that can take good pics and interface with my smartphone. | |
Like this one looks pretty cool:
| Seeing that the showtime for the movie recommended to me is almost at a perfect time. It's all going to work. | |
Convenience of AMC Website
| |
| I like this song. Hard rock. | |
| Was listening to YouTube Music "Energy Supermix". | |
| Screen shot of French dip. | |
| Thought I liked this but not so much. Skipped track after not long. | |
| Weather supposed to rain Saturday morning. Indeed did. | |
| Walking to Colophon, downtown Fairhaven, after parking. | |
| A statue near me. Kids seemed to like it. Could have been "Dirty Dan"? | |
| My seat and menus. Got there just before Happy Hour ended. | |
| My route to the movie. Looking good; only 30 minutes required. Schedule looking good. | |
| Side salad looks pretty good. | |
| Artistic shot of the Colophon sign reflecting in my jus. | |
| Buttered and Toasted Bread | |
| |
| |
| A little skimpy perhaps but delicious, too. | |
| Money shot of mushroom side. | |
| We see the caramelized red onions. They are great. | |
| Interior as I wait to use the restroom. Looked like some happy diners. | |
| Another section of this large establishment. I was happy to be sitting outside. | |
| Movie is at 7:10. Timing is perfect. | |
| I decide to go with a "Focus" mix instead of "Energize" as I'd done on the way back. | |
| I continue to refine my review. | |
| Part of my Focus mix. I like it and feel fancy. | |
| I have the idea of "Mixed Digital Media" as my skill set. It excited me but it's not really a thing. | |

| Looking like I'm getting near 1M photo views on Google. I guess that's cool. | |
| The AMC theater in Burlington. | |
| Still the old cinema it ever was. | |
| Not as nice as stuff you get closer to Seattle. | |
| A line!?!? WTH!!! I can't! | |
Getting Called to the Front Because I'd Pre-Purchased

| The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent | |
| I liked it quite a bit. Nick was funny and Pedro Pascal was good, too. They're a quirky bunch together but really quite funny. The movie kept you guessing and wondering and was very tongue-and-cheek. | |
| Was a really fun night "out" with myself and the movie was good. Now to tell Julie of my adventure. | |
