An excellent walk through the history of radioactive materials, physics and the march to create nuclear weapons in the United States.

Very often we keep hearing about the same small, but important set of historic events, but this book unveils the hidden details that were part of the process. It covers and interweaves the history of scientific discovery and the people who did it against the bigger world history, specifically World War II and the Manhattan project.
Many other books and movies target the big events - the dropping of the first atom bombs, for example, but here we can learn more about the process that lead to them and to being first - producing the "fuel" that enabled the bombs and the following Atomic age.

Amazing description of the revolutionary, yet "basic" (from modern point of view) apparatus and processes that allowed humanity to understand many the building blocks of the universe.
|
Highly recommended for any history lovers and/or people trying to get the "big" picture of how the Atomic age happened.

Nice style, does not require any advanced physics knowledge to enjoy and follow.
